Can your height tell whether you are at risk of cancer? Know the facts related to this disease

Cancer: Cancer is one such disease that can affect different parts of your body. It occurs when cells in the body start growing uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. According to Cancer.Net, older age, a personal or family history of cancer, tobacco use, alcohol consumption and exposure to radiation can increase a person’s risk of cancer. However, according to a recent report, our height can also increase the risk of cancer. Today in this article, we will tell you many facts related to this disease, which is very important to know for health.

what the research found

According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, your height can determine your risk of cancer. The research team looked at global evidence on the links between diet, weight, physical activity and cancer. It was found that the taller you are, the higher your risk of ovarian, prostate, pancreas, colorectal, breast and kidney cancer.

Description of the findings of the study

The study concluded that every additional five centimeters in height could put you at an increased risk of certain cancers with specifics.

Kidneys – 10 percent increased risk

breast cancer before and after menopause — nine and 11 percent, respectively

ovarian – eight percent

pancreas – seven percent

colorectal – five percent

prostate – four percent

Why your height affects your cancer risk

Susannah Brown, science program manager at the World Cancer Research Fund International, explains why one’s height affects cancer risk. The most important thing to remember is that it’s not just a person’s height – that is, the distance from your head to your feet – that increases your cancer risk. Instead, it is the process that your body engages in with cancer to make you taller.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), some of the most common symptoms of cancer include:

Fatigue that doesn’t get better with rest

– Unexplained weight loss or gain

Swelling or lump anywhere in the body

– skin changes

– cough or hoarseness

Change in bowel habits

– fever or night sweats

– Headache

You Can’t Change Your Height, But You Can Learn How To Be Healthy

Overall, being tall is not a curse and can prove to be a boon when it comes to preventing chronic diseases including diabetes, stroke and heart attacks. Besides that, there’s really nothing you can do about it, the height can’t be changed. However, if you want to lower your risk of cancer, there are steps you can take in terms of eating healthy and staying physically active. According to the Mayo Clinic, eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking or avoiding alcohol consumption, and getting regular medical care can reduce your risk of cancer.
