The controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 results has reached new heights, with the opposition ramping up its attacks on the government. The demands for a thorough investigation by a Supreme Court-appointed committee are growing louder. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the issue on Sunday, highlighting the need for significant improvements within the National Testing Agency (NTA) and reiterating that those found guilty of any malpractice will face severe consequences. This statement comes amid allegations of mismanagement and irregularities during the NEET-UG exam, causing widespread concern among students and parents.
Government’s Response and Assurance
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, speaking to the media in his constituency in Odisha, acknowledged the issues that have surfaced regarding the NEET-UG 2024 exam. Pradhan revealed that some instances of mismanagement had been identified at two locations. He assured students and parents that the government is taking these concerns very seriously and is committed to resolving them decisively. “Even senior NTA officials, if found guilty, will not be spared. The NTA requires substantial improvements. The government is committed to addressing this and ensuring that no culprit goes unpunished,” Pradhan stated.
Earlier, Pradhan had dismissed allegations of a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of malpractice and irregularities. Despite these assurances, the demand for a more comprehensive investigation continues to grow.

Opposition’s Demands for a Probe
The opposition has intensified its criticism of the government, insisting on an investigation into the NEET-UG 2024 results by a Supreme Court-appointed committee. The Congress party has been particularly vocal, citing reports of a purported paper leak in Bihar and accusing the Narendra Modi-led government of crushing the dreams of 2.4 million students. “The Prime Minister and his ministers have a history of evading responsibility. This matter requires a Supreme Court-supervised investigation to ensure justice for the students,” the Congress stated on its official X handle.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed serious concerns about the integrity of the NTA and the administration of NEET. He urged new Standing Committees to prioritize a thorough review of NEET, NTA, and NCERT. “Hopefully the new Standing Committee(s) when they get constituted will take up an in-depth review of NEET, NTA and NCERT. This should receive the highest priority,” he said in a post on X.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has also weighed in on the issue, pointing out that even the Gujarat Police have registered a case over allegations of invigilators tampering with OMR sheets in exchange for monetary benefits, involving cheques worth several crore rupees and eight blank cheques. “This conspiracy, implicating a school principal, a physics teacher, and several NEET coaching centres, underscores the urgent need for systemic change,” Stalin stated.
Stalin criticized NEET as a flawed measure of merit that disproportionately affects disadvantaged students. “From martyr Anitha to the countless students who have tragically taken their own lives, we have witnessed enough. NEET, an examination masquerading as a measure of merit, has repeatedly revealed itself as a pervasive scam affecting all levels of society. The Union government must stop defending this anti-student, anti-social justice, and anti-poor NEET system,” he said in a post on X.
Political Leaders unite with Pradhan
Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Education Minister Kapil Sibal has joined the chorus of voices demanding a Supreme Court-led probe into the allegations of irregularities in NEET-UG 2024. Sibal emphasized the need for all political parties to unite and address this issue strongly in the upcoming Parliament session. “All political parties should raise the matter strongly in the upcoming session of Parliament,” Sibal asserted.
The NEET-UG 2024 controversy highlights the need for transparency and integrity in the examination process. The growing demands for a Supreme Court-appointed investigation underscore the widespread concern over the fairness of the exam and the future of millions of students whose careers are at stake. As the situation unfolds, the government faces increasing pressure to take decisive action and restore confidence in the national testing system. Pradhan’s commitment to ensuring accountability and addressing issues within the NTA is a step in the right direction, but the pressure on the government continues to mount. As the situation unfolds, the onus is on Pradhan and the government to take decisive action to restore confidence in the national testing system.
