According to Ashwini Vaishnav, Rs 60,000 crore has to be spent on the annual pension of the Railways. Salary expenditure is Rs 97,000 crore, while Rs 40,000 crore has to be spent on fuel. He said that the Railways had to spend Rs 59,000 crore on subsidy last year. Railway is bringing new facilities. If new decisions have to be taken, we will take them. But at the moment everyone should look at the condition of the railways.
Demand to restore discount on rail tickets
Lok Sabha MP from Maharashtra, Navneet Rana had asked the Railway Minister that when will the concession given to senior citizens on rail fare be restored. Responding to which the Railway Minister said that at present it is not possible to restore the concession on rail tickets.
Every rail passenger gets 53% discount on fare
Last week, during the question hour, a question was asked about giving railway concession to senior citizens. In response to which the Ministry of Railways said that it gives an average discount of 53 percent on all passengers traveling in the railways. Along with this, in addition to this exemption, it provides concession to Divyangjans, students and patients. A question was asked to the Railway Minister that in the absence of Railway Concession, 63 lakh senior citizens have stopped traveling by rail and whether the Standing Committee of Parliament has given a proposal to give concession on rail fare to senior citizens again. is suggested. In a written reply to this question, the Railway Minister said that in 2019-20, Railways has given a subsidy of Rs 59,837 crore on passenger tickets. That is, the railway has given an average discount of 53 percent on the fare to every railway passenger.
