BR Ambedkar Death Anniversary, Mahaparinirvan Diwas 2022: Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, whom we all also know by the name of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Dr. Ambedkar is called the father of the constitution. He died on 06 December 1956. Every year on December 06, the death anniversary of Baba Saheb is celebrated as Mahaparinirvan Diwas.

What is Parinirvana (What Is Mahaparinirvan)

Parinirvana means ‘Nirvana after death’ i.e. Nirvana after death. Parinirvana is one of the many main principles and goals of Buddhism. According to this, a person who attains Nirvana remains free from worldly attachments, desires and pains of life. Along with this, he also remains free from the cycle of life. But it is not easy to attain Nirvana. For this one has to lead a virtuous and religious life. In Buddhism, the death of Lord Buddha at the age of 80 is called Mahaparinirvan.

Significance of celebrating Mahaparinirvan Divas on the death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has played an important role in improving the condition of the poor and downtrodden. He made his important contribution in ending many practices including untouchability from the society. The followers of Buddhism believe that their Buddha Guru was also virtuous like Dr. Ambedkar. According to Buddhist followers, Dr. Ambedkar has also attained Nirvana through his works. That’s why his death anniversary is celebrated as Mahaparinirvan Day.

Please tell that Dr. Ambedkar studied Buddhism for many years and on 14 October 1956 he adopted Buddhism. After his death, his last rites were also performed according to the rules of Buddhism. The place where Dr. Ambedkar was cremated in Dadar Chowpatty, Mumbai is now known as Chaitya Bhoomi.

How to celebrate Mahaparinirvan Day

On the death anniversary of constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar i.e. 06 December, people offer flowers and garlands on his statue and light lamps and candles. After this, tribute is paid to him. To pay homage to Babasaheb, a crowd of people gathers at Chaitya Bhoomi as well. On this day many people including Buddhist monks sing holy songs and slogans of Baba Saheb are also raised.
