The opposition is asking for strict action in the IIT-BHU Sexual Assault Case. Congressmen organized a large-scale protest on Tuesday, January 2, near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary office, also known as “Mini PMO,” where they demanded that the government “bulldozer action” be taken against the homes of the three men who are charged with sexually assaulting an IIT-BHU student on November 2.
The party activists first assembled at Gurudham Intersection, led by Rajeshwar Singh Patel, the president of the district unit, and Raghavendra Chaubey, the president of the city unit. According to Chaubey, despite the police employing force to stop them, the workers managed to get close to the Mini PMO.
They organized a protest, holding signs and yelling slogans, and they sent a police officer a letter listing their three demands for action in the IIT-BHU Sexual Assault Case.
Regarding the IIT-BHU sexual assault case, Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmaker Mahua Moitra questioned Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying, “Thok dijiye, sir. Does every bulldozer have its own kind? (Attack them, gentleman. Why is operating the bulldozer taking so long this time?
In addition, Chaubey said, the party activists demanded that the houses of the accused rapists be demolished using bulldozers and that Ajay Rai, the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, be removed from the case because Rai had claimed that the accused had ties to the ruling party.
Their third demand was dismissing a case against students who had organized a dharna to call for justice for the survivor.
What is the IIT-BHU Sexual Assault Case?
The event happened on the night of November 1st. Hundreds of students from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) staged a demonstration on campus in the wake of the tragedy, calling for the prohibition of outsider admission. The complainant stated that on November 1st, the woman had left her hostel with a friend.
Three males on a motorbike stopped her, brought her against her will to a corner, and gagged her after severing her from her friend. The complainant said that after the accused had stripped the woman, they had taken pictures of her and recorded a video of her.
Under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 354 (assault or criminal force on a lady with intent to insult her modesty) and the Information Technology Act, the police at the Lanka police station filed a formal complaint. Gang rape was then included in the FIR as an additional offense.
The IIT-BHU sexual assault case has raised voices all over the nation, asking for strict action.
