WhatsApp has recently rolled out an enhanced message pinning feature, marking a significant update for its users. Now, within a conversation, users can pin up to three messages, a notable increase from the previous limit of one message. This update was initially detected in the beta version of the app last week, indicating Meta’s ongoing efforts to refine and improve user experience on its platform.

In addition to text messages, Meta has expanded the pinning capability to encompass various message formats, including media, voice notes, and emojis. This enhancement reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to providing users with versatile and convenient communication tools.

Furthermore, the multi-message pinning feature is applicable to both individual and group chats, offering flexibility across different conversation contexts. Users can now curate and prioritize multiple pieces of information within their chats, enhancing organization and accessibility.

Moreover, WhatsApp has introduced customization options for pinned messages’ duration. Users have the flexibility to choose between pinning messages for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days, catering to their specific needs and preferences. By default, messages will remain pinned for 7 days, as stated by Meta.

Overall, this update represents WhatsApp’s ongoing evolution as a communication platform, catering to users’ diverse needs and enhancing the functionality of its messaging service.

To pin a message within a WhatsApp chat, follow these steps for both Android and iOS devices:
  1. Select the Message: Long-press on the message you want to pin within the chat.
  2. Access the Menu: After selecting the message, a menu will appear at the top right corner of your screen. Tap on the three-dot icon to access additional options.
  3. Choose ‘Pin’: From the drop-down menu, select the ‘Pin’ option. This action will pin the chosen message to the top of the conversation, just below the name of the person or group.
  4. Unpinning a Message: If you wish to remove a pinned message, long-press the pinned message and select the ‘Unpin’ option from the three-dot menu. On iOS devices, you can swipe right on the pinned message to reveal the ‘Pin’ button, then tap on ‘Unpin’.
WhatsApp’s Pinning Feature Compared to Telegram and Recent Platform Development

While this update aims to enhance user experience, it’s worth noting that compared to other messaging platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp’s pinning functionality is somewhat limited. Telegram allows users to pin multiple messages, providing more flexibility and organization within chats.

In recent months, WhatsApp has been actively developing and introducing new features to its platform. Some of these include the ability to listen to voice messages before sending them on Android devices, a chat filtering option for easier navigation, and a revamped search feature allowing users to search for old messages by date, among others. These ongoing updates aim to enrich the WhatsApp experience and address user needs more comprehensively.
