Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a stern warning, expressing deep concern over the potential consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the electoral bond scheme. In a comprehensive interview with Asian News International (ANI), PM Modi defended the scheme, highlighting its significance in unveiling the trail of political funding and combating the menace of black money in elections.
The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of transparency in political funding and acknowledged the shortcomings of the electoral bond scheme while affirming its role in addressing the issue of unaccounted cash in elections. He stressed that the initiative was driven by a genuine intent to cleanse the electoral process from the influence of black money and ensure greater transparency.
Refuting allegations from the opposition regarding the disproportionate benefit to the ruling party, PM Modi presented data indicating that a significant portion of contributions through electoral bonds went to parties other than the BJP. He underscored the success of the scheme in providing a traceable trail of political donations, thereby enhancing accountability and reducing the scope for corruption.
PM Modi also took a decisive stand against accusations of misuse of central agencies for political purposes, asserting that the government’s actions were aimed at upholding the integrity of democratic institutions and combating corruption effectively. He highlighted the significant role played by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in curbing corruption since the inception of his tenure in 2014.
Furthermore, PM Modi addressed concerns raised by the opposition regarding the level playing field in elections and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to electoral reforms. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring free and fair elections, citing legislative measures aimed at enhancing the autonomy and inclusivity of the Election Commission.
Narendra Modi toward future
In addition to defending the electoral bond scheme, PM Modi outlined his vision for the future, reassuring the nation that his decisions would prioritize the overall development and welfare of the country. He dismissed speculations surrounding the tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as attempts to evade accountability for electoral defeats.
As the country prepares for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi’s remarks underscore the critical importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process. Despite the challenges and criticisms, his unwavering commitment to combating corruption and promoting good governance remains resolute.
PM Modi’s stance on the electoral bond scheme reflects a proactive approach towards addressing systemic challenges and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability in Indian politics.
