The long-awaited confirmation of the newest chapter of the Call of Duty: Black Ops franchise has arrived. Black Ops 6 is coming soon as the first official teaser video has been posted on 23rd May.
According to callofduty.com, “official lines of communication have begun,” and the full reveal will come during the Xbox Games Showcase at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, June 9.
This news has been hotly anticipated and long-awaited: two years, to be precise. That’s how long ago the official play-testing for the game began.
Thanks to community forums, fans anticipated a new addition to the Call of Duty franchise long ago.
Initially, the game was tentatively titled Call of Duty: Gulf War, fueling rumours that the franchise would shift from its Cold War setting to the early 90s Gulf War era and would join the Black Ops storyline.
How was the announcement made?
Now Activision has corroborated some of the rumours in the latest teaser. Activision went with an elaborate marketing plan for Black Ops 6. A photo teaser was first spotted by a Redditor on USA Today newspaper on May 24, hours before Activision posted the official snippet.
A website with the same name has also appeared, featuring a faux new channel broadcasting clips of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Statue of Liberty in Paris, the Washington Monument and US Supreme Court in Washington DC, and other places being vandalized.
The announcement came with some short marketing clips and images, with one video depicting a group of people as they approach Mount Rushmore. The faces of the Presidents have been blindfolded, with a message reading: “The truth lies.”
The clip focused on the logo for the special forces team at the centre of the series, with the announcement drawing some excitement in the comment section. The official Xbox account commented: “LET’S GO”, with the Call of Duty account replying: “LET’S GET IT”
Which kind of Characters will be seen?
In terms of returning characters, it’s rumoured that Adler is coming back, but that’s all we know so far.
The Black Ops series is known for featuring real-life people, like Ronald Reagan (Black Ops Cold War) and Robert McNamara (Black Ops 1).
So it wouldn’t be surprising to see real-life military and political leaders from the Gulf War era appear in the new game.

Fan’s excitement sparks as their wait comes to an end
The announcement was also met with enthusiasm from fans, with one writing on X/Twitter: “genuinely so excited to see more about this game,” with the official account responding: “Not too much longer”
Post announcement, the game’s official social media is swamped with newspaper-style posters with the caption truthlies.com.
According to a game designer at Call of Duty developer Treyarch, the game had been under testing for two years. This means that reports of Black Ops 6 having the longest development cycle of any Call of Duty ever were indeed true.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 release date?
The game had been under development for over four years, according to Windows Central.
Reports claim that Black Ops 6 will be released in late fall, precisely on October 25. However, more will be revealed at the Xbox showcase on June 9.
This is the sixth entry in the series since it debuted in 2010. The Black Ops franchise within Call of Duty has become one of the most popular of all, and lucrative, too. Dave Anthony, the director of the first two Black Ops games, recently discussed how he made “incredible amounts of money” during his career.
Microsoft now owns Activision and the Call of Duty franchise, but new releases like Black Ops 6, will continue to launch as multiplatform releases.

This has led to further rumours that Black Ops 6 could be included as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service upon its release in October, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that the unprecedented move is likely to happen.
