Following an increase in violence sparked by purported “Pakistan Zindabad” shouts outside the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, BJP MLAs protested against Vidhan Soudha and called on the state administration to act immediately.
The BJP MLAs spearheaded the demonstration because they were angry that the government had not taken action against the people yelling pro-Pakistan chants. Parliament was filled with voices criticizing the Congress administration, charging it with ineptitude and indecision in handling the situation.
R Ashok, the leader of the opposition, expressed unhappiness with the government’s delay in taking action.
“A full day has passed and the administration has not taken any action. How can we anticipate their behavior?” He posed the query.
CM’s intervention
In response to mounting criticism, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the matter would be referred to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and that, upon receipt of the findings, suitable measures would be taken.
The dispute started when people cheering for Congress MP Syed Seer Hussain’s win in the Rajya Sabha elections allegedly chanted anti-Pakistan chants. An indignant video of the event went viral, prompting demands for responsibility.
Home Minister G Parameshwara reaffirmed the government’s commitment to carrying out a comprehensive inquiry and emphasized that, should the accusations prove to be accurate, the offenders will face severe legal repercussions.
However, opponents—including Ashok—criticized the government’s response as insufficient and emphasized the fact that no one had been arrested or even that the issue had been investigated. The accusation against the government was that they disregarded law and order and gave in to pressure.
Ashok emphasised that the demonstrations brought attention to how bad the situation was, saying, “Pro-Pakistan slogans have desecrated the sanctity of this place.” This administration has no business being in power for even a little period of time if we do nothing to stop individuals who shout such things. “What is dead” is excellent.
The BJP is determined to demand harsh punishment against individuals responsible for the contentious instances that have affected many people in the country, and as emotions rise, so does the need for responsibility.
