Yesterday, Manchester City defeated West Ham United by 3-1 at their home ground, Etihad Stadium, to win their fourth English Premier League (EPL) title in a row. The goals from Phil Foden and Rodri saw the Citizens win the EPL title right through the match.
The Pep Guardiola-led Manchester City became the first side to win four consecutive titles in a row, and they overtook their arch-rivals Manchester United, who had the record for winning the EPL titles three times in a row.
City’s Brilliant Form continues
The Citizens brilliantly started the match, and it was none other than City’s newest star of this season, Phil Foden, who opened the scoring for the Citizens in the 2nd minute with a brilliant goal that went past West Ham’s French and former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, making it 1-0.
The English superstar Foden again scored his second goal in the 18th minute to help City take full control of the match by making it 2-0. However, West Ham fired back one with the help of Ghanaian winger Mohammed Kudus, who scored with an excellent shot, and it didn’t allow Manchester City’s German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to make any save on it, making it 1-0. On the other hand, some Arsenal fans were hoping for a draw against Manchester City, but the Cityzens showed why they are the current dominant team in the English Premier League (EPL).
In the second half, Spanish midfielder Rodri opened his scoring for the Citizens in the 59th minute to make it 3-1 and seal the game right for the Citizens, who were on their way to winning their fourth EPL title in a row. This time the French goalkeeper, Areola, should’ve done better, as the goal was a lame effort made by the Spaniard.
The Norwegian monster Erling Haaland also missed some great chances during the game, but the Catalan manager Guardiola wouldn’t mind it as they already sealed the game in the second half.

With this win, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City clinched their fourth title in a row, and on the other hand, Mikel Arteta-led Arsenal won against Everton at the Emirates Stadium by 2-1 with a late goal from Kai Havertz in the 89th minute. But the Gunners again missed out on the chance to win the English Premier League (EPL) title by 2 points.
Manchester City’s Run of Dominance
Pep Guardiola’s reign of dominance at Manchester City is almost similar to what Sir Alex Ferguson had done at Manchester United. Their ongoing success owes a lot to their brilliant midfielders such as Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva, whose contributions have changed the game for the Citizens, who ended their season in a brilliant way with 28 wins, 7 draws, and 3 losses in the English Premier League (EPL).
Especially if their Spaniard midfielder Rodri plays, who has the habit of winning games whenever he plays in the squad. If he plays with dynamic midfielders like Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Bernardo Silva, few teams in the world cannot tackle and stop this team. The Player Phil Foden was announced as the Player of the Season, while Erling Haaland won two Golden Boots in two seasons. They are also going to face their archrivals Manchester United in the final of the Emirates FA Cup 2023–24.
Pep Guardiola stated after the match that ‘The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We’ll talk to the club, we have time to talk next season because I have to see the players as well, if they follow me they follow us.’
Phil Foden was the Player of the Match
What a fanstastic season it has been for the 23-year old English midfielder maestro who not scored but provided crucial assists in each of the City’s game. He stated after the match that ‘I never got bored with it [winning trophies]. There is no better feeling that winning something.’
He finished the 2023–24 English Premier League (EPL) season magnificently by scoring 19 goals and 8 assists in the season. He has now won six remarkable Premier League title victories at City.
