On Monday afternoon, the local county police DeKalb arrested the person who drove a red SUV and crashed at the front gate of the FBI headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The FBI authorities stated that it was attempt to obtain entry at the FBI facility.
Who is the suspect?
The suspect has not been identified yet but two local law enforcement authorities stated that the man is a former Navy veteran from South Carolina. The law enforcement official further stated that ‘The suspect was then taken to a hospital for evaluation and is now in the custody of DeKalb County police. Bomb technicians have cleared the vehicle.’
The FBI Assistant and special agent in charge Peter Ellis stated that no one was injured during the event and he also stated that ‘“He … tried getting into the gate, but our security precautions prevented him from getting in… This time we are looking at both state and federal charges.’
However, a official from the DeKalb local police stated that the FBI is handling and solving the situation not them.
FBI On The Incident
A report stated that the event occured two weeks later after the field office of Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) in Atlanta conducted a outdoor simulation for their personnel and employees to test them for respoding to unauthorized or surprise entry.
The FBI took such important measures and increased its security personnel to protect their employees or workers from risk and threats after someone attempted to breach their field office located in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2022.
The 2022 FBI Breach Incident : Another incident
This is not the first time that such incident is happening with FBI as in 2022, a local gunman tried to breach and enter the Cincinnati FBI Field Office in Ohio but was killed after exchanging some gunfire with the local police. The Ohio local authorities identified the man as Ricky W. Shiffer from Columbus which is also a big city in Ohio.
According to some officials, the intruder was wearing a body armour and tried to enter into the entrance in the FBI field office from the visitor’s screening facility which is located just outside the field office in Kenwood suburb.
Nathan Dennis, a local representative of the Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that ‘He fled the area, but was spotted about 20 minutes later by a police officer.’
After some minutes, the police chased the gunman but was surprised after he stopped in between and exchanged some gunfire with the local authorities before escaping into a cornfield area.
The incident not only sparked anger among some groups but also gained international attention in which many posts in Twitter stated that it was violence against the Democrats, the FBI and the Supreme Court since the former US President and Republican candidate lost the 2020 US Presidential election.
However, the FBI Director Christopher Wray who elected by the former President Donald Trump to be the FBI Director in 2017 stated that “unfounded attacks on the integrity of the FBI erode respect for the rule of law and are a grave disservice to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect others. Violence and threats against law enforcement, including the FBI, are dangerous and should be deeply concerning to all Americans.”
However, the FBI stated that they were going to open a case on the SUV run-in incident and the FBI assistant Peter Ellis refused to share any comment on whether the incident is related to any planned terrorist attack on US soil.
