Today, the Narendra Modi-led government called Gloria Berbena, a senior US diplomat to talk firmly about the controversial remarks made by a representative of the States Department about the arrest of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in a liquor scam case.
This comes after on Wednesday, a humiliated Germany made a significant huge U-Turn and made it clear that they don’t want to interfere in India’s internal affairs.
German Diplomat on Kejrival’s Arrest
On 23rd March, the Ministry of External Affairs ordered a senior German diplomat to their headquarters in South Block, Raisina Hills, New Delhi, and delivered the German Diplomat Bonn an ultimatum by pointing out his controversial remarks on India’s internal affairs.
The MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) saw the German diplomat’s critical remarks as a way of interfering with the Indian judicial system and also damaging the Indian judiciary in the process. However, the firm counter by the MEA produced results as the German diplomat refused to give any details regarding the summoning and also declined to give any comment on the topic.
The German diplomat talked about the situation in his mother tongue and the translation stated ‘Have commented on the case. Would not report from confidential conversations now. Both sides have a great interest in deepening the cooperation and we and the Indian side look forward to the next government consultations, which are expected to take place in the autumn of this year. The Indian Constitution guarantees basic human rights and freedoms. We share these democratic values with India as a strategic partner’.
Germany’s Response to India
The German officials made a quick response after India made it clear that democratic countries like the US must be very careful to remark on fellow nations’ democracy over respect for the rule of law.
New Delhi also made it clear and stated that interfering or commenting on foreign nations’ internal policy and affairs is a situation that will lead to bad relationships.
As of now, another Western European country informed India discreetly that they will not comment or make a remark on Arvind Kejriwal’s detention by ED in a money laundering case that involves the scam of the Delhi Excise Policy.
