Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell admitted that being hospitalized after a late-night party in Adelaide was far from ideal. He acknowledged that the incident garnered attention and mentioned that its impact on his family outweighed his own.
Last month, Maxwell attended a concert by ‘Six and Out,’ the band featuring former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, where he was drinking and enjoying himself. However, he suddenly felt unwell and had to be rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. Reports suggest that he lost consciousness during the journey.
‘I just moved on pretty quickly’ says Maxwell
Speaking to the Australian Associated Press, Glenn Maxwell expressed that the incident may have impacted his family more than himself. Despite acknowledging the less than ideal timing of the incident, he noted that he had a scheduled week off from the game during that period.
In a remarkable display of his batting prowess, the 35-year-old demonstrated his prowess as Australia’s most dangerous batter in shorter formats by scoring an unbeaten 120 off just 55 balls against the West Indies on Sunday, marking his fifth T20I hundred, equaling a record.
Reflecting on his return to the game, Maxwell emphasized his focus on regaining fitness and preparing for upcoming series after the incident. Cricket Australia initiated an investigation into the incident, leading to Maxwell’s absence from the preceding ODI series against the West Indies. Head coach Andrew McDonald stressed the importance of Maxwell taking care of himself and evaluating his actions in light of the incident.
Maxwell – A Familyman
When discussing his life away from the cricket pitch, Maxwell emphasized that much of his time is devoted to spending quality moments with his young family.
“Just a lot of family time. I think having that much downtime with the family at the moment, it has just been so good for me away from cricket. And I sort of come to cricket, it is just fun now, I’m able to just go out and just enjoy it,” he shared.
Maxwell is familiar with finding himself in the spotlight for off-field incidents.
Last year, despite grappling with a series of injuries, he demonstrated commendable performance during the World Cup.
In a memorable incident during the ODI World Cup in India, Maxwell experienced concussion after falling off a golf cart in Ahmedabad.
