On Monday, a 21-year-old MBBS student Desari Chandu died after he got closed in at a frozen waterfall in Kyrgyzstan. Desari Chandu was from Madugala village of Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalle district and was in the second year of his MBBS degree.
The Kyrgyzstan authorities informed the parents of the deceased student after the incident.
Andhra Pradesh Officials on this Incident
Desari Chandu’s parents said to the media houses of Andhra Pradesh that they already discussed the situation and contacted the BJP President and Telangana minister G Kishan Reddy to help them return their son’s remains to them so they can give a proper funeral. The parents of the deceased MBBS student stated that ‘Reddy was communicating with officials in Kyrgyzstan and arrangements were being made to bring the body back.’
Meanwhile, the parents also has been in close touch with MP of Anakapalle B Venkata Sathyavathi. The MP stated that ‘Reddy spoke to the Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan and urged for assistance to bring Chandu’s remains to India.’
How the Incident Occured?
Desari Chandu recently finished his second-year exams on MBBS and was on vacation with his four friends from Andhra Pradesh. He died after getting trapped in the snow at a frozen waterfall in Kyrgyzstan where he went to pursue his MBBS degree.
Kyrgyzstan is the home to one of the best NMC(NATIONAL MEDICAL COMMISSION) recognized medical universities in the world that provide excellent and outstanding medical education at an extremely low cost for an MBBS student from India.
However, a degree from a university in Kyrgyzstan is recognized not only in India but also worldwide.
Desari Chandu was the son of Dasari Bheem Raju who is the owner of the famous sweet shop ‘Madugula Halwa’ in Anakapalle district of Vishkapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
External Affairs Minister on the Deaths of Indian Students Abroad
S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India said to the Parliament in the month of February that 403 students have died overseas since 2018. He stated that ‘As per the information available with the ministry, 403 incidents of death of Indian students abroad have been reported since 2018 due to various reasons including natural causes, accidents and medical conditions.’
He further stated that ‘Indian missions/posts abroad respond to any issues faced by Indian students on priority basis.’
As per the report shared by PTI(Press Trust of India), the report stated that ’91 Indian students died in Canada, 36 in the US, 48 in the UK, 35 in Australia, 40 in Russia, 20 in Germany, 21 in Ukraine, 14 in Cyprus, 10 in Philippines and Italy each, and nine each in Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, and China.’
Similar Situation In US
Another death of two students is now reported from the US, the two Indian students- Nivesh Mukka (19) and Goutham Parsi (19) from Telangana were studying at Arizona State University when they both perished their lives at a head-on traffic collision near Lake Pleasant in Arizona, USA. The incident occurred on 20th April.
The deadly accident involved a red 2022 Ford F150 and a white 2024 Kia Forte which resulted in a multiple-vehicle collision.
Mukka and Parsi, who were in the Kia Forte died right at the spot after the accident with serious and fatal injuries while the driver of the Kia Forte and the other driver of the Ford F150 were brought back to the local hospital with serious injuries but later they were discharged after they recovered.
