In response to widespread reports of paper leaks, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken the decisive step of canceling the UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024.
This significant move, announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, comes amidst escalating protests by civil service aspirants who have been vehemently opposing the alleged leaking of question papers.
The decision to cancel the exam underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of examinations and safeguarding the hard work of aspirants.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized, “There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who toy with the hard work of youngsters will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements.”
Lucknow police has swiftly responded by filing a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the paper leak, signaling a proactive approach towards addressing the issue. With over 48 lakh candidates, including approximately 16 lakh women, participating in the exam held on February 17 and 18 across 2,385 centers in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, the cancellation decision affects a substantial number of aspirants.
The demand for a re-examination has been resonating among candidates, who allege that the question paper was circulating on various social media platforms before the exam commenced. Consequently, the government has mandated a re-examination to be conducted within six months, aiming to rectify the situation and uphold the credibility of the recruitment process.
Probe Beyond Police Exam
Moreover, the government’s resolve to combat malpractice extends beyond the police constable exam, with orders issued to investigate alleged irregularities in the examination for Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) positions. Candidates have been encouraged to report any concerns or irregularities, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.
As the state government grapples with the aftermath of the paper leak scandal, the cancellation of the police constable exam reflects a proactive stance towards ensuring fairness and integrity in recruitment procedures, ultimately aiming to restore trust and confidence among aspirants and stakeholders.
