The AAP Party officials stated that the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) chairman and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal today afternoon inside Jail number 2 of the Tihar jail complex.
This will be the first meeting between both the Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann after Kejriwal was arrested by the ED last month for involvement in money laundering case linked to the now scraped Delhi excise policy.
Why Was Arvind Kejriwal sent To Tihar Jail?
Arvind Kejriwal was sent to the Tihar Jail and will be housed in jail number 2 earlier this month. Previously, a judge ordered Arvind Kejriwal’s 14-day imprisonment in connection with the case linked to the liquor policy-linked money laundering case.
The court further ordered that Kejriwal will stay in the jail and will be under 24-hour CCTV surveillance and tight security will be placed outside the jail premises. He will also be provided with medicines and a special diet because of his previous medical issues.
The court issused the verdict on Rose Avenue Court in Delhi after SV Raju, the Deputy Advocate General appearing for ED stated that ‘the agency was not asking for further remand in light of the Supreme Court’s recent judgment in former Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji’s case.’
He further stated that ‘Kejriwal’s conduct in the lock-up was totally non-cooperative and he was providing authorities with evasive replies.’
He also criticised and argued that the Dehi Chief Minister was ‘misleading the investigation’ regarding the liquor scam.
While on the other hand Kejriwal’s lawyer submitted an application to allow the AAP party chairman to carry three books which include Ramayan, Bhagavad Gita and How Prime Ministers Decide by journalist Neerja Chaudhary – in jail.
The ‘Loktantra Bachao’ mega rally was also held in the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi by the opposition Indic Bloc party which included the participation of many popular candidates like Congress party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Congress Chief and Prime Ministerial candidate Mallikharjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mehbooba Mufti, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and many more.
Tihar Jail Officials On Bhagwant Mann’s Meet With Kejriwal
A Tihar Jail official stated that the ‘On Friday, a security meeting was held between ADG Punjab police (security), Delhi police, Tihar administration and security forces posted within the prison. The meeting of the two CMs has been confirmed for today.’
Arvind Kejriwal is currently residing in Jail Number 2 after he was arrested by ED for liquor scam policy linked money laundering case.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will be accompanied by Sanjay Singh, the MP of the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) in Rajya Sabha.
The meeting held on Friday between the senior officials of Punjab police and the Tihar jail authorities where they focused on the details and the protocols regarding the meeting between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal who were both granted Z plus security protection by the Centre.
The Changes Regarding the Meet
However, the Tihar prison officials did not share any details regarding where the meeting will be held but they however believe and estimate that the meeting will finished within an hour.
While most of the prison inmates meet their family members in the common area, the prision officials are going to make some changes due to the security reasons of both the leaders.
The changes are that every prisoner inmates are ordered to submit the names of 10 family members who are going to visit them twice a week. At one, only 3 members or visitors are allowed to meet the prisoners while the names must be submitted to the jail superintendent for verification.
Prisoners whose family members are unable to visit them will be allowed to make video conference calls per week while the additional inmates are allowed to make a five-minute phone call every day.
