Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified his attack on the Modi government’s economic policies during his recent address in Madhya Pradesh. He asserted that decisions like demonetization and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) have severely impacted small businesses, leading to increased unemployment across the nation. Speaking at the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, Gandhi highlighted the economic challenges faced by India under the current administration.
Gandhi’s remarks came amidst his extensive tour across various states as part of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, aimed at connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and addressing their concerns. He emphasized the need for equitable development, alleging that the Modi government’s policies have disproportionately favored certain sections of society while neglecting the interests of small businesses and common citizens.
During his address, Gandhi pointed out alarming statistics, claiming that India’s unemployment rate has surged to its highest in four decades, surpassing that of neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Pakistan. He attributed this rise in unemployment to the adverse effects of demonetization and GST on small businesses, which have struggled to cope with the aftermath of these decisions.
Furthermore, Gandhi criticized the government’s approach towards Indian Railways, accusing it of prioritizing the interests of the affluent over those of the general public. He highlighted issues such as fare hikes, dynamic pricing, and the reduction of general coaches in favor of AC coaches, which, according to him, disproportionately affect ordinary commuters, including laborers, farmers, students, and the middle class.
As Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ progresses, his critique of the Modi government’s economic policies resonates with various sections of society, setting the stage for heightened political discourse on issues of economic inequality and social justice.
