On Monday, Inter Milan holds off their arch-rivals AC Milan by winning the Milan derby by 2-1 as well as the Seria A title with it at the San Siro.
Consecutive goals from Inter Milan’s Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram gave the Nerazzurri a 17-point advantage over their closest rivals AC Milan. The title win made them earn a second star in their jersey by winning their 20th Italian league title.
Inter Milan Brilliant Attacking throughout the Game
The Milan derby started in a great way by both sides started to push, attack, and score the first goal in the match. A late challenge came on Inter’s Nicola Barella but it produced no cards and the match resumed after the foul.
But in the 18th minute, Inter fans exploded after the French international and former Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard played a beautiful cross into the AC Milan box which the Inter defender Francesco Acerbi delivered a perfect header with no difficulty.
Four minutes after the first half, Marcus Thuram son of former FC Barcelona player Lilian Thuram doubled the lead for the Nerazzurri in the 49th minute after he scored the goal with a low shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the AC Milan penalty box.
However, the Rossoneri attacks were constantly let down by substandard finishing, but they pulled one back in the 80th minute when the Swiss international and Inter keeper Yann Sommer’s save bounced against the post and fell into the path of the former Chelsea player Fikayo Tomori who netted the ball into the nets with ease.
In the stoppage time, emotions erupted as a fight broke out among the AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez and Inter’s Denzel Dumpries which resulted into red cards which were shown to both.
Davide Calabria another AC Milan player was awarded a red card after he made a drastic foul on Inter’s Davide Frattesi.

But when the final whistle was blown, Inter players Lautaro Martinez and teammate Federico Di Marco climbed to the top of the frame at San Siro to celebrate with the fans.
While Flares and fireworks were launched from the stands, a banner was hoisted in Italian which stated ‘Repeat it to the Madonnina, who are the champions and who the crybabies.’
The Madonina is a statue located on the top of the Milan cathedral which overlooks the city and the derby is named after it.
A Perfect Gift For Inter Milan And Inzarghi
Simeone Inzarghi’s team’s performance in the league was fabulous and they deserved to win the title as they kept their pressure on the title race from the start along with AC Milan and Juventus but winning the league by defeating the arch-rivals AC Milan is something else and will be talked about about the generations to come by.
With the best attack and defence in the league and with only one defeat, the Nerazzurri totally dominated the entire season despite their tragic elimination from the Uefa Champions League by the hands of the Atlectico Madrid who were also recently eliminated by Borussia Dortmund.
The Argentian and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez stated that ‘I feel like crying because we worked so hard, we deserve this joy. I told the guys, We find ourselves in a situation that’s never happened before. We needed to take advantage of this opportunity, because look around, the entire stadium is ours now.’
Simeone Inzarghi stated that ‘Winning the league with five matches left — more or less won with nine matches left, today making it mathematically certain — in a derby, with Milan the home team, that is something that will remain with us.’
Inter last won the title in 2021 followed by AC Milan in 2022 and Napoli in 2023.
Player of the Match
There is a saying that big matches need big players to provide big moments for the team and Marcus Thuram exactly fulfilled the role for Inter. He was not only the goal scorer but also a brick wall for AC Milan and through his hardworking efforts he archieved his dream for the Nerazzurri by scoring the most important goal in the tournament.
He stated that ‘Crazy feeling, crazy game. We wanted to do it for our fans and we did it. It’s my first league title and I’m very proud of it.’
