The students who are suspended from the US universities for participating in the Pro-Palestinian movement are being offered education by the Houthis, which is a political group in Yemen and is also designated as a terrorist group by the US and UK. Recently, the group disrupted the worldwide trade in the Red Sea to show support towards the Hamas.
An official of the Sana’a Univeristy, which is one of the biggest universities in Yemen’s capital city Sana stated that ‘We are serious about welcoming students that have been suspended from US universities for supporting Palestinians. We are fighting this battle with Palestine in every way we can.’
Why Did Yemen’s Sana’a University took this Step?
Sana’a University of Yemen became the first university to show support towards the Palestinian movement by taking the students who were suspended from US Universities for rebelling for the Palestinian cause. The university officials which is mainly run by the Houthis, acknowledged to the public that they had taken a ‘humanitarian’ stance by supporting the Palestinians.

The officials reported that they are offering support to these students by welcoming them to their university to continue their education in Yemen. The officials said that the university officials oppose what the students studying at the UK and US universities are exposed to restrictions for freedom of expression. They also added and included the email address for any student who wishes to continue their studies in Yemen.
Protest For the Palestinian Cause in US Universities
In recent weeks, many popular US universities like Columbia University, Yale University, UCLA, and NYU have emerged as an area of resistance against the Israeli soldiers who are fighting in Gaza. Students from different colleges have been putting up tents to show their endearing support for the Palestinians.
Many protesters yelled out to US President Joe Biden who has supported Israel from the start of the war with the ‘Ironclad’ support. They have yelled at the US authorities to stop more bloodshed at the Gaza strip and requested the schools to stop their full-fledged support to the companies who are supporting Israel’s government.
Many of the schools and universities in the US and Europe requested police support to help the administration stop the protests, as a result, it drew the attention of the protesters, and activists all over the world expressed their anger towards this situation.
E.g. Recently, Columbia University President Nemat Shafik requested help from the NYPD(New York Police Department) to turn and ease down the protests outside the university.
Pro-Palestinian Protest in Other Nations
The protests are not only happening around US and UK universities, but it has also spread across countries like France and Australia which are also witnessing a similar situation of anti-Israel protests outside the college campus just like the US universities.
On Friday, the Paris police entered France’s iconic Sciences Po University and removed the student protesters and activists who occupied the university’s building premises, to protest for the Palestinian cause and against Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza strip of Palestine.
The same news is also coming from Australia, where many people gathered and started protesting against the Israel war on Palestine in one of the top universities in Australia. The protesters demanded to stop and end their collaboration with the companies who have been supporting the Israeli cause.
The Red Sea Conflict
After the Israel-Palestine war broke out last year in October, the political Yemeni group Houthis started attacking the ships that pass through the Red Sea.
The Houthis promised to attack any ship in these waters if they share any form of relationship with Israel or their authorities, to show their support towards Israel’s unnecessary war with Palestine and also towards the Palestinian cause.
But the Houthis also kept another motive i.e. to keep Yemen totally under their control of the Houthis.
