On Tuesday, at least 12 people from a private firm were killed and 14 people were found injured after a bus carrying these passengers flipped and ended in a ditch near the Kumhari area of Durg District in Chhattisgarh.
The incident occured at around 8:30 pm near the Khapri village
Richa Prakash Choudhary, the district collector of Durg stated that ‘the bus was packed with workers. The bus fell into a ‘murum’ soil mine pit on Tuesday night.’
District Collector on the Chhatisgarh Bus Accident
Richa Prakash Chowdhary stated ‘The bus carrying labourers fell into a ditch near Kumhari around 8.30 pm, resulting in the deaths of approximately 12 individuals while 14 others were injured and admitted to a hospital.’
She also informed about the condition of the injured people who are admitted to the hospital by stating that ‘Twelve of the injured were referred and shifted to AIIMS (Raipur), while the remaining two are receiving treatment at a private hospital. All of them are currently in stable condition and we are providing them with the best possible care.’
Durg Superintendent of Police Recalls the Situation On the Accident
Jitendra Shukla, Durg’s Superintendent of Police in Chhattisgarh also highlighted on this situation and stated that ‘the bus carrying more than 30 people skidded off the road and turned turtle before before plunging into the ‘murum’ soil mine pit, murum Soil is mostly used for construction.’
He further stated that ‘Soon after getting the information about the situation, a police team reached the spot as quickly as possible and carried out a rescue operation along with the combine teams of State Disaster Response Force and the local people.’
The Durg Collector Richa Prakash Chowdhary stated that the private distillery company has announced to pay the recovery and damages fee to the victims who worked for their company.
She also said that authority would lead an inquiry and question the people and the victims in the incident to find the guilty one.
Authorities Pour Condolenses To The Victims Family
In the meantime, many Indian authorities like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu poured condolenses to the family of the victims in the Durg Bus Accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his emotion on this situation on his official X page and stated that ‘The bus accident in Durg, Chhattisgarh, is extremely sad. My condolences to those who lost their loved ones in this. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way.’

Indian President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her sorrow on X to honor the victims and stated ‘The news of many people getting killed in a bus accident in Durg district of Chhattisgarh is very sad. My deepest condolences to all the bereaved families! I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.’
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai also stated on his official X page that ‘I was saddened by the news of a bus, packed with employees of a private firm, meeting with an accident near Kumhari in Durg. I pray to the Almighty to bring peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families. Adequate arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured employees. I wish them a speedy recovery.’
Chhattisgarh’s Deputy CM Meets the Victims of the Bus Accident
Vijay Sharma, the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh met with the victims of the bus accident and stated that it was ‘unfortunate’.
Vijay Sharma further stated ‘Whatever happened is unfortunate. All of them were labourers of the Kedia Distillery and were leaving on a bus when the accident took place.
On both sides of the road, there are 20-foot-deep ditches… they have been leaving at this hour for around 20 years now but today the bus slipped and fell in the ditch. One patient also said that the headlights of the bus were not switched on which caused the accident.’
