The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed that India pacer Mohammed Shami will miss the forthcoming Test series against South Africa. Mohammed Shami was named to the squad; however, his participation was contingent on his fitness.
India is slated to play two Tests in South Africa beginning December 26 before England’s five-Test series in India. Shami, who claimed 23 wickets in the just-concluded ODI World Cup 2023, will be hoping to be ready for the England series.
Changes after Mohammed Shami´s injury update in the team
In addition to Mohammed Shami, fast bowler Deepak Chahar has withdrawn from the three-ODI series, which begins on Sunday (Dec. 17). According to the statement, Chahar has opted not to play due to a family situation. Akash Deep, an uncapped bowler, has been picked as his substitute.

“Mr. Shreyas Iyer will join the Test squad to prepare for the Test series after the conclusion of the first ODI in Johannesburg on December 17th.” He will miss the second and third ODIs but will play in the inter-squad game.
“Team India (Senior Men) Head Coach Mr. Rahul Dravid, Batting Coach Mr. Vikram Rathour, Bowling Coach Mr. Paras Mhambrey, and Fielding Coach Mr. T. Dilip will link up with the Test squad and oversee their preparations for the inter-squad game and the Test series,” the board of directors was told.
