Today, the state news agency KCNA stated that ‘North Korea carried out its first nuclear counterattack drills to simulate its “nuclear trigger” management system, guided by leader Kim Jong Un, as a clear warning to its enemies.’
On Monday, Seoul’s military and Tokyo stated that North Korea launched several ballistic missiles towards the sea of its eastern coastline.
What is The Drill About?
A report stated that North Korean dictator and Supreme leader Kim Jong Un apparently ‘guided a combined tactical drill simulating a nuclear counterattack involving super-large multiple rocket units.’
The report further stated that ‘the missiles hit their island target at a distance of around 352 kilometres (219 miles), and that Kim was expressing great satisfaction.’
The state news agency KCNA reported and stated that ‘As part of testing the nationwide nuclear management system, called nuclear trigger, its artillery forces joined the country’s first such drills on Monday in a show of diversified nuclear capabilities and protest against U.S. and South Korean “provocative and invasive” military exercises.’
The Supreme leader and dictator Kim Jong Un also oversaw their first ever ‘nuclear drill’ which involved moving the soldiers into a nuclear offensive stance and artillery was fired with fake nuclear warheads in the event of a nuclear crisis.
International Officials on North Korea’s Ballistic Missile Drill
A military leader of South Korea stated that ‘missiles flew from the Pyongyang area for about 300 kilometres before splashing down in the waters east of the Korean peninsula.’
The military leader further stated that ‘they detected cruise missiles at the time of its launch.’ South Korean officials described the launch as an ‘open aggression‘.
A government representative from Japan confirmed that one missile reached a maximum altitude of 50 kilometers while the other missile fell outside the country’s EEZ(Exclusive Economic Zone).
A report statd that the ‘The launch is the second in less than a week by Pyongyang, which on Friday tested a super-large warhead designed for a strategic cruise missile.’
Ballistic Missile Possibly Used by Russia Against Ukraine
This military drill launch came after North Korea’s closest ally Russia helped them by using their United Nations Security Council veto in March to successfully stop UN monitoring of sanctions against Kim Jong Un’s government for their military programs and nuclear drills.
Many political analysts warned and stated that ‘North Korea could be testing cruise missiles ahead of sending them to Russia for use in Ukraine’ while the US and South Korean government alleged that ‘Kim has already shipped weapons to Moscow, despite UN sanctions banning any such moves.’
The South Korean government has already released information that ‘Pyongyang has sent around 7,000 containers of weapons to Moscow for use against Ukraine.’
South Korean Officials on This Drill
Han Kwon-hee, a member of the Korea Association of Defence Industry Studies stated that ‘The latest launch “is an exercise designed for a scenario showing how the Kim regime would respond to a surprise aerial bombing on Pyongyang by joint US-South Korea air forces.’
He further stated that ‘The drill shows the possible response could involve retaliation by nuclear missiles at the South.’
While Hong Min, a senior analyst of the Korea Institute for National Unification stated that ‘Pyongyang’s recent track record on launches indicates the North is trying to push its technical abilities. Monday’s launch appears to be a part of its weapons development programme that needs testing rather than ones that are fully developed.’
In the previous year, North Korea conducted several missile tests despite getting warnings from its rivals US and South Korea.
