Ilya Sutskever who is now a former CEO of Open AI and was responsible for the ouster of the company’s high-profile Chief Executive Mr Sam Altman has resigned from the company on Tuesday.
The announcement was made exactly the day after OpenAi launched its latest Artificial intelligence model GPT-4o in a presentation that impressed everyone with its capabilities and flexibility.
Sutskever’s involvement was beneficial for the company as he was a graduate of The University of Toronto.
What was Sutskever’s role in the ouster of Altman?
In November 2023, Sutskever insisted on the board members and added a vote to eliminate Sam Altman. According to previous reports, when asked for the reason behind the firing of Altman, Sutskever answered that Altman tried to grow the technology “too far and too fast”.
Within a few days of Altman’s firing, Ilya changed his heart and called him back to the company.
Ilya published an apology and cleared that he didn’t intend to harm OpenAi as he added, “I love everything we have built together, I will do everything I can to reunite the company”.
Altman didn’t stay out for too long from the company as he joined within 5 days from his ouster and helped the team to progress in the field of artificial intelligence.
The company was established in 2015 by Mr Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Dr Sutskever and several young researchers.
The role of Sutskever would be handled by Dr Pachocki who has effectively served as a chief scientist after Sutskever recruited him. He was among the key researchers on the company’s most important project that recently got launched-GPT-4.
In his recent statement, he said that he is grateful to Ilya, and said, “We have different and complementary styles in leadership “.
Sutskever in his recent post said, “After almost a decade, I have decided to leave OpenAI,” – he added that he is excited about his new project which is very meaningful to him on a personal level, although he kept the project unrevealed.
