Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023
Maharashtra’s Saswad won the title of the cleanest city for cities with fewer than a million residents in the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023. The next and third cleanest cities in this category were Patan in Chattisgarh and Lonavla in Maharashtra. The cleanest Ganga towns were determined to be Varanasi and Prayagraj.
The distinction for the cleanest cantonment town went to the MHOW Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh.
When the cities were awarded, Manoj Joshi, the secretary, and Hardeep Singh Puri, the union minister of housing and urban affairs, were present on the dais.
The world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey is called Swachh Survekshan, and it has been carried out since 2016 by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as part of the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission.
The activity serves as a competition between towns and communities to enhance the quality of their waste management and cleaning services provided to the public.
Swachh Survekshan’s main objective, according to MoHUA officials, is to promote widespread citizen participation and raise awareness among all societal segments of the value of cooperating to improve towns and cities as places to live.
In this eighth year of the survey, over 4,500 cities were assessed using 46 different variables by 3,000 assessors.
Segregated door-to-door waste collection, zero-waste events, handicapped-accessible restrooms, and enhanced plastic waste management are a few of these signs.
