Today in India, people celebrate Veer Bal Diwas to honour the sacrifices made by Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh. On January 9, 2022, the anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh’s birth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced last year that December 26 would be celebrated as “Veer Bal Diwas” in honour of the martyrdom of the Sikh guru’s sons.
History of Veer Bal Diwas 2023
In remembrance of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh’s sacrifices, Veer Bal Diwas is honoured. Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, who was only six years old, and Fateh Singh, who was only nine, were killed on this day by Mughal forces acting on Aurangzeb’s orders.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s younger sons were Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh. The Mughal army took them captive and made them convert to Islam. The two young Sahibzadas were supposedly sentenced to death by bricking alive because they refused to convert and publicly declared their devotion to their religion.
The importance of Veer Bal Diwas in 2023
In remembrance of the “Sahibzadas,” the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Veer Bal Diwas is celebrated. Every year, on December 26, the Indian government declares that this day will be observed. This day honours Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh’s martyrdom.
PM Modi is present at Bharat Mandapam for the Veer Bal Diwas celebration. On Tuesday, December 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the celebration at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Among others, Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur, two Union Ministers, were with him. On this unique occasion, the prime minister will also lead a march past.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted on social networking site X, saying, “On Veer Bal Diwas, I bow to Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four Sahibzade and Mata Gujri Ji.”
They bravely refused to convert and chose martyrdom in defiance of the cruel Mughal tyranny. Generations to come will be inspired by their unwavering bravery. Declaring this day as their martyrdom day, Prime Minister Modi Ji has told the story of their sacrifice to people throughout the nation and the globe.”
