On Sunday, the Venezuelan authorities and enforcement arrested the famous Youtuber Oscar , Television and Radio Host Oscar Alejandro at the Simon Bolivar Internation Airpoirt in Maiquetia near Caracas, Venezuela. His family stated in a statement that he was arrested due to someone linked his name in terrorism. However, the prosecutor’s office under the rule of Nicholas Maduro made no official statement about this arrest yet.
Who is Oscar Alejandro?
Oscar Alejandro is a 37-year old famous Venezuelan Youtuber who completed his education from Arturo Michelena University which is private university located around the central region of Venezuela. He began his career in media communication at a very early age.
In 2011, He was allowed to be the voice of ‘Venevision’ to step in and take over the iconic voiceovers made by the TV reporter and actor Winston Vallenilla. Television is an open-signal television channel operated by Cisneros Media and Organizations.
After that in 2012, he starred in a comedy show known as Let’s Laugh which gave him an opportunity to be the first reporter of a comedy show in the history of national television of Venezuela. His job was to cover the important comedic events which happened in parts of Venezuela.
He first started his YouTube channel in 2006 which has more than a million followers and along with that he also started a podcast called ‘Too Transparent’. He first received his gold button in 2021 for having more than 1,000,000 subscribers.
His public defendent stated ‘Recognized for his work in promoting Venezuelan culture, he now faces this legal process. The family hopes that the judicial process, which will begin with a hearing on Monday, April 1, 2024, in the 2nd Court of Control of the Metropolitan Area, will clarify the details of the situation and ensure fair treatment in accordance with Oscar Alejandro’s legal rights.’
Press and Media on Oscar’s arrest
Many press media organizations stated that the Venezuelan YouTuber is being kept at the Antiterrorism Division of the Scientific Investigation Corps of Venezuela headquarters. He was arrested at the airport while he was preparing to visit Canaima, a famous national park located in southeastern Venezuela where it borders Guyana and Brazil.
After his arrest, the media stated that this is yet another situation where the Venezuelan local authorities and enforcement used the word ‘terrorism’ to arrest journalists, civilians and public figures as violence increases in this regions ahead of the Venezuelan Presidential election on 28th July.
The Reason Behind the Arrest of Oscar Alejandro
The Venezuela authorities have not given the specific details behind the arrest of the 37-year-old Venezuelan YouTuber but on Twitter, some accounts which are linked with the regime of Nicholas Maduro’s dictatorship started to falsely accuse Oscar Alejandro of promoting an attack against the government and important buildings located around Caracas, Venezuela.
A video was posted on Twitter by the authorities under the regime of President Nicholas Maduro in which they constently attacked the YouTuber in which Oscar described the Credicard Tower in Caracas. He further stated that the house serves as an server for all debit and credit cards in Venezuela.
Oscar Alejandro further stated that ‘If a bomb were thrown at that building, the entire national banking system would collapse.’ In this line he exposed the weakness of Venezuela’s electronic payment system.
Nicaragua’s Relationship with Maduro’s Venezuela
The video was posted seven months ago and made no harm or impact on any community until the unknown accounts began to share and re-posted the same video after the news of the YouTuber’s recent arrest came. Many Venezuelan jounalists and activists stated that Oscar Alejandro’s arrest is unfair and baseless for some meanless accusation.
Meanwhile, Oscar recently traveled to Nicaragua where his videos faced censorship because it brought international attention to them. Nicaragua is ruled by Daniel Ortega who is a socialist dictator and also is one the closest ally of Nicholas Maduro.
