The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced its intention to commence the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on March 22. However, in an innovative move, they have decided to divide the season’s schedule into two halves.
Arun Dhumal reveals
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal revealed that the schedule for the first half of the season will be disclosed initially. Subsequently, the schedule for the second half will be unveiled after the announcement of general election dates.
This decision likely stems from the need for flexibility in scheduling matches around important events like general elections, which can impact logistical arrangements and availability of venues. By adopting this approach, the BCCI aims to ensure smoother coordination of IPL matches with other significant events, thereby optimizing the league’s operations and maximizing viewership.
IPL 17th Edition Set to Begin on March 22
According to Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League, the 17th edition of the tournament is currently scheduled to commence on March 22 in Chennai.
However, the full schedule has not been released yet due to the upcoming general elections of 2024 in India, which are also expected to take place in April and May.
Dhumal emphasized that the IPL organizers are closely monitoring the situation regarding the elections. Once the dates for the general elections are officially announced, they will be able to finalize the schedule for the latter half of the tournament accordingly.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the election dates, Dhumal reiterated the commitment to begin the IPL on March 22 and assured that the entire tournament will take place in India. This indicates the IPL’s determination to proceed with its plans while ensuring coordination with governmental agencies and accommodating any logistical challenges posed by the election period.
The announcement of the Lok Sabha poll dates in early March is anticipated to provide clarity and enable the IPL organizers to finalize and release the complete schedule for the tournament.
