The collection included Messi’s famous No. 10 shirt from the World Cup final, in which Argentina overcame France on penalties to win the trophy for the third time.
This places it behind Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals jersey, which sold for a record $10.1 million in 2022, and Diego Maradona’s famed “Hand of God” goal shirt, which he wore during the 1986 World Cup and sold for $9.28 million in May 2022.
Messi won the Golden Ball award for the second time in 2022, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. Earlier this month, he told us about his emotions before and after capturing the elusive prize.
“It’s the thing that everyone wants.” Everyone has enormous aspirations; the largest is winning a world championship with their national team. I was fortunate to achieve everything at the club and individual levels with Barcelona. This was the only thing I couldn’t figure out.
“There are only a few players who can say they have accomplished everything, and thank God, I am one of them,” Lionel Messi added.
“If you put in the effort, sacrifice, work, and humility, in the end, you achieve your goals,” he said. “The road can be difficult, but you must keep fighting for your dreams to achieve them.”
“I’ve always enjoyed playing football, coming to the national team, and being on the pitch, but I’ve never enjoyed it as much as I do now,” Lionel Messi continued.
Lionel Messi has gained the hearts of football lovers all around the globe. The auction of his jersey indicates what he has earned through his game.
