Vladimir Putin signs bill revoking Russia’s ratification of CTBT with effect in 2023

Vladimir Putin, Russia’s elected-head has revoked his country’s ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), a move he says is designed to bring Moscow in line with the United States.

The new law to abandon the landmark agreement outlawing nuclear weapons tests was signed on Thursday, a week after Russia’s upper house Federation Council unanimously approved it.

The 1996 treaty outlaws all nuclear explosions, including live tests of nuclear weapons, though it was never effective because some key countries did not ratify it.

Moscow on October 6 announced its intention to withdraw from the treaty to “mirror” the position of the US, which has signed, but not ratified the treaty.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Russia’s move “represents a significant step in the wrong direction, taking us further from, not closer to, entry into force. Russia’s action will only serve to set back confidence in the international arms control regime.”

“Russian officials say Russia’s planned move to withdraw its ratification does not mean that it will resume testing, and we urge Moscow to hold to those statements,” Blinken said.

The law will help Russia to continue the Nuclear Tests and this is huge wake-up call considering the war hysteria in Europe. The treaty was signed to contaminate Nuclear War threats which has been completely sliced apart by Putin’s governance.

United Nations, the foundation of which was laid on the basis of preserving peace has failed miserably in performing what could be its only duty. On-going wars in the Middle-East and in Europe have certainly petrified everyone.

The United States of America, so called the world power has been rendered power-less by China in its conflict against Taiwan, against Russia in its conflict against Ukraine and by Middle-East countries in their disagreements.

Vladimir Putin has repeatedly announced that he doesn’t wishes to continue the tests but the sole purpose of ratification of this test was to come on level terms with the United States of America.

Russia has been on war against Ukraine for more than a couple of years now, and no one was able to sow the seed of peace amongst the two nations.

The uncertainty remains whether Russia decides to use the Atomic Bombs or refrain its use. The repercussion of this act will not be only for Ukraine but the entire world.

As of 2022, the Federation of American Scientists estimates that Russia possesses 5,977 nuclear weapons, while the United States has 5,428; Russia and the U.S. each have about 1,600 active deployed strategic nuclear warheads.

A very close source to Russian government has cited that these numbers have drastically increased as Russia started to re-invest in Nuclear weaponries when the Russia-Ukraine conflict passed half-a-year’s mark.
